Listed below are the serving opportunities at Immanuel where we currently have need.


NEXTGEN MINISTRY

  • The Discovery Park Small Group Leader reports to the NextGen Pastor

    Description: 

    During the Sunday morning service, kids head to DP where they hear the message of the Gospel in a large group setting, then move into age specific small groups. The Small Group Leader uses the provided material to involve their group of kids in discussion and activities.

    Requirements:     
    • Be a follower of Jesus, doing your best to live a Christian life.
    • Be caring with children and a good listener.
    • Complete the “Screening Process” and training for working with minors.

    Time Commitment: 1 hr. / week, 2 times a month

    Why this matters: Kids aren’t the church of tomorrow; they are the church of now! Every child should have caring, Christian adults investing in their lives and helping in their discipleship.

  •  The Kids Ministry Check-In Volunteer reports to the NextGen Pastor

    Description:

    The Volunteer greets parents/guardians and children at the check-in desks of either World of Wonder (WoW) or Discovery Park (DP), and ensures the children are released to the proper adult after the church service. They remain in the lobby of WoW or DP during the church service to keep the area safe and secure.

     Requirements:
    • Be caring and enthusiastic with the children as they arrive.
    • Pay careful attention to detail.
    • Complete the “Screening Process” and training for working with minors.

     Time Commitment: 1 hr. / week, 2 times a month

     Why this matters: We need friendly, happy faces to greet our families at WoW and DP to make for a terrific Sunday experience for the whole family. We want families to know we have a safe space specifically designed with their children in mind, so the adults can enjoy the main service without worry.

  • The Unlimited Soul Small Group Leader reports to the NextGen Pastor

    Description:

    At Unlimited Soul (Tuesday night Youth Group), teens in grades 7-12 get together weekly for games, snack, Biblical teaching, and small group time. Small Group Leaders meet Tuesday nights with the same teens, use the provided material to lead a conversation about the lesson and build lasting relationships with their group.

     Requirements:
    • Be a follower of Jesus, doing your best to live a Christian life.
    • Be willing to talk to teens and get to know them.
    • Complete the “Screening Process” and training for working with minors.

    Time Commitment: 2 1/2 /hrs. week

    Why this matters: We are so excited to offer a weekly youth group for our teens and want to invite adults to come alongside them as they navigate life and a relationship with Jesus. Our teens need adults, beyond their parents/guardians, to pour into their lives and mentor them.

  • The World of Wonder (WoW) Volunteer reports to the NextGen Pastor

    Desription

    In the World of Wonder, the Volunteer will ensure a safe space while playing with infants and toddlers,while
    their parents/guardians are in the main worship service. There will always be a minimum of two Volunteers working together each Sunday.
    Requirements:
    • Be physically able to move about easily with infants/toddlers, and able to pick up the infants when needed.
    • Be caring and enthusiastic with the children.
    • Complete the “Screening Process” and training for working with minors.

    Time Commitment: 2 hrs. / week, 1-2 times a month when scheduled.

    Why this matters: It’s important that we have a special area designed specifically for the needs of children, at each age and stage. We need volunteers who will oversee WoW - our special space for infants and toddlers

WORSHIP MINISTRY

  • The Worship Team Instrumentalist Volunteer reports to the Worship Director

    Description:

    As part of a team, assist in leading IBC congregation in corporate worship as an instrumentalist under the direction of the Worship Director.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Model worship through your attitude and actions
    • Strive to play to your greatest potential with excellence to the Lord.
    • Attend scheduled rehearsals and services punctually. There is typically one mid-week rehearsal, a preservice run through followed by the service
    • Come prepared to rehearsals and services. (Do appropriate homework and be responsible for your own instrument, music, and notations.)
    • Be a team player. Be willing to give and receive feedback
    • Be prepared to use Planning Center Online (PCO) where service layouts are created, and all song resources will be kept.  All scheduling is done through PCO. You will be required to accept or decline serving requests here
    • Ask if/when you have any questions, need help, prayer, clarity, resources etc.

     Requirements:
    • Able to read chord charts and smile.
    • Committed follower of Jesus
    • Complete the “ Screening Process” and training to work with minors.

     Time Commitment: 5 hrs. / week (when scheduled)

    Why this matters: Worshipping God through singing is a Biblical, vital expression of our faith. God is worthy of praise and using our gifts to publicly worship Him and to help others worship Him brings Him glory.

    Description:

  • All Production Team members report to the Production Director

    Description:

    The Camera Operator works with a team on Sunday mornings and occasionally at special events to help produce a high-quality professional broadcast of the service. Wearing a headset, they listen to the Director to capture the best possible shots.

    Requirements:
    •  Able to come early to services when scheduled.
    • Willingness to receive training on operating a camera.
    • Able to focus on what’s happening and take direction.

    Time Commitment: 2/hrs. a week when scheduled.

    Why this matters: The online ministry of the church has become central to our mission, with 150+ people watching online services every week. Producing a high-quality broadcast that is visually appealing and professional encourages more people to tune in and leads to further opportunities to help people encounter and follow Jesus.

  • All Production Team members report to the Production Director

    Description:

    The Director oversees the production of the online service and occasionally special events. He/she directs the camera operators from the control room using a headset and selects the shots for broadcast using a video switcher and monitor. He/she ensures that the internet livestream or recording is in progress.

    Requirements:

    • Able to come early to services when scheduled.
    • Willingness to receive training on operating the video switcher, OBS software and online streaming platforms.
    • A good eye for selecting camera angles.
    • Able to exercise leadership and quick, confident decision making.

    Time Commitment: 3/hrs a week when scheduled.

    Why this matters: The online ministry of the church has become central to our mission, with 150+ people watching online services every week. Producing a high-quality broadcast that looks great is very important, as it encourages more people to tune in and then leads to further opportunities to help them follow Jesus.

  • All Production Team members report to the Production Director

    Description:

    The In-Room Sound Tech works with a team on Sunday mornings and occasionally at special events to help produce a high-quality professional sounding service for the people in the Worship Center.

    Requirements:
    • Able to come early to services when scheduled.
    • Willingness to receive training on operating the sound board [Allen & Heath QU-32]
    • A good ear for mixing audio of a live band.
    • Willingness to receive feedback and instruction from those leading worship, including the Pastor, and the Production Director.

    Time Commitment: 3/hrs. a week when scheduled.

    Why this matters: When the sound during a service isn’t balanced it can be a distraction. When audio is mixed well it helps create an atmosphere of worship and focus that aids in the communication of the message. “Faith comes by hearing.” (Romans 10:17)

  • All Production Team members report to the Production Director

    Description:

    The Online Sound Tech works with a team on Sunday mornings and occasionally at special events to help produce a high-quality professional sounding broadcast for the people participating online.

    Requirements:
    • Able to come early to services when scheduled.
    • Willingness to receive training on operating the online sound setup, including software.
    • A good ear for mixing audio of a live band.
    • Willingness to receive feedback and instruction from those leading worship, including the Pastor, and the Production Director.
    • Willingness to participate in the service from the Control Room, separated from the Worship Center.

    Time Commitment: 3/hrs a week when scheduled.

    Why this matters: The online ministry of the church has become central to our mission, with 150+ people watching online services every week. Producing a high-quality broadcast that sounds great is challenging, but very important, as it encourages more people to tune in and then leads to further opportunities to help them follow Jesus. When audio is mixed well it minimizes distraction, aiding in the communication of the message. “Faith comes by hearing.” (Romans 10:17)

  • Description:

    The ProPresenter Operator runs the visual presentation software during Sunday services and special events. This includes some preparation of slides before the service, and then the appropriate advancement and selection of slides or other visual media throughout.

    Requirements:
    • Able to come early to services when scheduled.
    • Willingness to receive training on ProPresenter and an ongoing commitment to learning the software on your own.
    • Willingness to receive feedback and instruction from those leading worship and the Pastor or guest speaker.
    • Able to remain focused on what’s happening and troubleshoot.
    • Familiarity with computers is essential.

    Time Commitment: 3/hrs a week when scheduled.

    Why this matters: The visuals during a service, in person and online, help to create an atmosphere of worship and aid significantly in the communication of the message. When operated with excellence, they create a seamless and professional experience for all.

HOSPITALITY MINISTRY

  • The Coffee and Conversation volunteer reports to the Coffee & Conversation Ministry Coordinator

    Description:

    Preparing and serving coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and water at 9:30 and 11:15 on Sunday mornings. Water must be heated starting at 9:15 Volunteers should arrive by 9. Two people are needed each Sunday to prepare and serve. Clean up must be done after coffee time, cups and glasses put through dishwasher and put away.

    Requirements:
    • Organized
    • Work well with others
    • Knowledge of coffee preparation

    Time Commitment: 2 hrs. / week, once a month

    Why this matters: Many people find having coffee, tea, etc. makes them feel more at home and relaxed in the formal church setting. It gives an opportunity for people to mingle and meet new people and socialize. It’s all part of being a welcoming church.

  • Description:

    Greeting people at the Main door, or greeting people at the Worship Centre doors, helping them find a seat, introducing them to someone to sit near especially if they are alone, generally making them feel comfortable.

    Requirements:
    • Being friendly and welcoming.
    • Able to be early for church on Sunday morning or an event.

    Time Commitment    2 hrs. / week, one Sunday a month

    Why this matters: You are the face of Immanuel for visitors and regular attendees. Your ability to make people feel at home helps to keep people returning to church. We want people to feel the love of Jesus at Immanuel!

  • The Kitchen Helper reports to the Kitchen Coordinators

    Description:

    Helping in the kitchen to set up for food events or serving at same or clean up after. Celebration Sundays and other special events as required.

    Requirements:
    • Ability to work with others.
    • Food Handling Course is an asset.
    • Some heavy lifting is required for loading/unloading dishwasher.
    • Willing to bake or make sandwiches for events such as funerals, special events such as conferences.
    • Willing to prepare and serve coffee for special events as requested.

    Time Commitment:3 hrs. / week, once a month, when needed

    Why this matters: Food is an important part of fellowship and provides an informal way to get together with other church members outside of Sunday services.

  • The Welcome Centre Volunteer reports to the Hospitality Ministry Coordinator

    Description:

    As a Welcome Centre volunteer, you will be responsible to occupy the Welcome Centre desk on Sunday morning before and after the morning service. You may be answering questions from attendees and making visitors feel welcome and assisting them as necessary. You may have to fill out contact information cards for visitors/new members.

    Requirements:
    • Knowledge of church facilities and activities
    • Ability to direct people to appropriate areas or personnel
    • Friendly and ability to see if people need assistance.

    Time Commitment: 1 hr./ week, once a month.

    Why this matters: Important for people to know how to find out what goes on at Immanuel in addition to regular Sunday services, i.e.: adult and youth activities and groups. People with children need information on children’s program and its location. Location of washrooms. We need contact information on visitors.

MISSIONS MINISTRY

  • The Mission Point Person-Global STEP reports to the Missions Ministry Coordinator

    Description:

    Keep in contact with our STEP partners - bringing updates and info to the church, an email or two a month, possibly some phone calls.

    Requirements:
    • Having a personal relationship and commitment to Jesus Christ and being supportive and involved with IBC would be a requirement.
    • Able to attend some ministry team meetings
    • Time Commitment: A few hours a month, (in a couple of emails, maybe a phone call), and one monthly meeting (most months).

    Why this matters: Staying well connected to our mission partners is vital to ensure the relationships remain strong and effective. Having a designated point person makes for an easier process.

  • The Mission Point Person-Local-TREY reports to the Missions Ministry Coordinator

     Description:

    A cheerleader for TREY, brings updates and info to the church. Trey’s Director could potentially serve as a Board Member of Trey.

    Requirements:
    • Someone who is missionally minded and compassionate.
    • Having a personal relationship and commitment to Jesus Christ, and being supportive and involved with IBC.
    • As the contact person, there may be opportunities to visit TREY, you may need to have completed the abuse prevention policy through IBC.

    Time Commitment: A few hours a month, (in a couple of emails, maybe a phone call), and one monthly meeting (most months).

    Why this matters: Trauma Recovery for Exploited Youth (TREY) provides a home for girls escaping Commercial Sexual Exploitation. As our key local mission partner, we want to ensure a strong supportive relationship.

  • The Mission Point Person-Camp Pagweak reports to the Missions Ministry Coordinator

    Description:

    A cheerleader for Pagweak, keeps in contact with the camp director, brings updates and info to the church, with potential to also represent Immanuel on the Camp’s board.

    Requirements:
    • Having a personal relationship and commitment to Jesus Christ, and being supportive and involved with IBC
    • There may be opportunities to visit the camp, and then if you would like to participate in camp activities (and be at camp),
    • You would need to have completed the abuse prevention policy through IBC, and Pagweak requirements.

    Time Commitment: A few hours a month, (in a couple of emails, maybe a phone call with the camp), and one monthly meeting (most months).

    Why this matters: Pagweak is our key mission partner in our region, helping hundreds of kids & youth meet Jesus every year. We need to maintain a strong relationship.

OTHER

  • The Decorating & Set Design Volunteer reports to the Lead Pastor

    Description:

    Participants work with the church staff to develop plans and construct sets for the stage and lobby areas based on the theme or season of the year. Most construction related projects involve reaching out to experts in the community or becoming part of a volunteer group to do the construction.

    Requirements:
    • Technical skills in construction and/or decorating are helpful.
    • Creativity, problem solving, and organizational skills
    • Able to climb, move and hang heavy items
    • Occasionally asked to help create decorations for fund raising events and/or church events

    Time Commitment: Seasonal, and set changes happen 3-4 times per year

    Why this matters: The physical layout of the worship space should reflect what we value at Immanuel. It should also be comfortable for the users and viewers. The lobby space has been redesigned to show that we value everyone, including their differences and imperfections, while also communicating important things, and being able to welcome people in a variety of ways (including coffee, welcome area, lounge area and communication wall)..
